Sajiemon Sato founded this brewery in the Tohoku region in 1890, and the brand Yamatozakura reflects its deep roots in the Shonai area of Yamagata, where the brewery draws on locally grown Shonai rice and water from the Gassan mountain river system. Brewing continues to follow traditional methods, with the fermentation facility open for tours outside the active brewing season.
