Daisekkei Shuzo, located in the Azumino area of Nagano beneath the Northern Alps, took its name in 1949 from the three permanent snowfields of the Northern Alps — a tribute to the alpine snowmelt that feeds its wells. Founded in 1889, the brewery built its reputation on everyday table sake, with roughly 95% of production consumed locally, and won the Grand Prize at the National New Sake Tasting Competition in 1953, after which its sake was selected for the imperial household. The brewery remains committed to the idea that great sake belongs on the everyday dining table, not only on the competition stage.
