O capítulo americano da Ozeki começou em 1979 em Hollister, na Califórnia, tornando-se a primeira cervejaria japonesa de sake a produzir localmente nos Estados Unidos, escolhida pela qualidade do arroz cultivado na região e pelo acesso à água cristalina da Sierra Nevada. As raízes da empresa-mãe remontam a 1711, quando Chobee Osakaya fundou a Manryo no distrito de Nada, na Prefeitura de Hyogo, e o nome da marca Ozeki foi adotado em 1884 como tributo ao segundo mais alto posto do sumô.
