Yoshinogawa's Gokujo Ginjo is the brewery's declared flagship expression, and its recipe has been transmitted across generations since the brewery's founding in 1548, making it one of the oldest continually refined sake formulas in Niigata. Gokujo (極上) translates directly as 'supreme quality,' and the sake is built on Hyakumangoku rice polished to 55%, drawing water from both the Shinano River basin and snowmelt off the Higashiyama range. The result is a ginjo in the classic Niigata tanrei mode: a subdued, clean ginjo fragrance with hints of melon and apple, a tight citrus structure on the palate, and a long dry finish.
