Narutaki Shuzo was established in 1974 through a merger of breweries whose combined tradition spans over 300 years, and the brewery was purposely sited at a spring reputed to have supplied water for tea ceremonies held by Toyotomi Hideyoshi and Sen no Rikyu. The house philosophy, first rice, second water, third technique, shapes its flagship Jurakutaiko into a full-bodied, umami-rich sake built around the soft character of that legendary water source. Jurakutaiko has earned the Gold Award at the National New Sake Appraisal twelve times.
