Histoire & médias

Histoire

1487
Founded in 1487 (Chōkyō 1), during the Muromachi period. The Saito family, trading under the name "Izumiya," moved to Nikaho from Senshu in present-day Osaka. It is the oldest sake brewery in Tohoku and the third oldest in Japan.
1882
The earthen-walled kura (storehouse) still in use today was built in Meiji 15 (1882), providing an environment resistant to temperature swings; a 500-year-old zelkova tree beside it has shaded the building since the brewery's founding.
