战前作为食用米从北陆到东北地区被广泛栽培,但不适合战后引进的使用化肥的近代农法。通过《夏子的酒》(当年实时追剧的观众多为40岁以上)重回大众视野,但由于并非酒造好适米,酿造时需格外谨慎。稻株高达150厘米,是日本最高的水稻品种,栽培难度也居日本之首。
