Kaetsu Sake Brewery, founded in 1880 and based in Niigata Prefecture since 1886, sits at the confluence of the Agano and Tokonami rivers, where regular fog and abundant pure water create ideal conditions for the tanrei karakuchi (clean, light, and dry) style the brewery pursues. The Kirin brand takes its name from the mythical auspicious creature of Asian folklore symbolizing serenity and prosperity, with the brewery also producing the Kanbara and Homare Kirin labels under the same roof.
