Chugoku-jozo was founded in 1918 in Hatsukaichi, Hiroshima Prefecture, occupying a rare vantage point as the only sake brewery with a direct view across the water to Miyajima's sacred Mount Misen, the namesake of the Ichidaimisen brand. In addition to sake, the company has expanded into spirits production, opening the Sakurao distillery in 2018 and rebranding as Sakurao Brewery and Distillery in 2021.
