Michizakura Shuzo was founded in 1877 in Fukuoka Village, present-day Nakatsugawa City in Gifu Prefecture, and made a landmark decision in 2020 to relocate entirely to Higashikawa Town in Hokkaido in search of ideal brewing conditions. The town is unique in having no public water system, relying instead on natural snowmelt from the Daisetsu Mountains, and the brewery uses only sake rice grown on trusted Hokkaido farms. Since the move, the brewery's sake has retained its signature clean and gentle character while gaining increased transparency, guided by a philosophy of trusting nature and never cutting corners.
