Kobayashi Shuzo Co., Ltd., founded in the Meiji era in Kuriyama Town, Hokkaido, has been brewing Kitanonishiki for over 140 years using 100% Hokkaido-grown rice, pioneering stable sake production in Hokkaido's harsh winters through innovative use of coal-based temperature control in the brewery's early years. The range includes flagship expressions such as the long-selling Kitanoroman tokubetsu junmai, described as a clean and lightly dry sake with underlying rice sweetness. The Kitanonishiki junmai daiginjo won a platinum award at the French Kura Master competition in 2020.
