Sasamasamune Shuzo in Kitakata, Fukushima Prefecture, returned to its founding principles in 2015 after rebuilding its approach to quality following the regional disruption caused by the 2011 earthquake. The revamped Sasamasamune brand won the Fukushima Trophy in the junmai category at the International Wine Challenge 2015 and a gold medal in the junmai ginjo category in 2017. The brewery's philosophy holds that honest sake made with care will naturally find its audience.
