Homei Shuzo was founded in 1797 in Tamba Sasayama, Hyogo Prefecture, a region long associated with Japan's elite Tamba Toji master brewer tradition, which ranks among the top four professional brewing guilds in the country. The brewery's historic main building and original kura were registered as national tangible cultural properties in 2003, and a public tour facility opened in 2001 to preserve the visual and material heritage of Edo-period sake making. Its most celebrated product is Yume no Tobira, a sake brewed under the subtle vibrations of classical music by composers including Mozart and Beethoven.
