Miyajima Brewery was founded in 1911 in Arai, Ina City, Nagano Prefecture, a mountainous inland region known for cold winters well-suited to sake production. Shinanonishiki, the brewery's main brand, has been brewed under the theme of expressing the great nature of Shinshu, with a history of contract rice cultivation and a focus on pure-rice brewing. The brewery traces its sake roots back to 1662, when the site earned praise from Matsudaira Tadateru, the sixth son of the first Tokugawa Shogun, who reportedly kept the sake close at hand.
