Mienokambai is the flagship brand of Maruhiko Brewery, whose origins date to 1867 in Yokkaichi City at the foot of the Suzuka Mountains on the Shiga-Mie border. The brand was rebuilt around the brewery's original sake-making philosophy to eliminate sake's typical pungent odor in favor of fruity, transparent flavors that pair equally with Japanese and Western cuisine. Using 100 percent Yamada Nishiki and the mineral-rich yet low-iron mid-hard water of the Suzuka Mountains, Mienokambai has won six gold awards at the National New Sake Evaluation Competition.
