Founded in 1906 in Kami Town, Miyagi Prefecture, Nakayu Sake Brewery named its flagship brand Tenjomugen after early tasters described the sake as feeling like a dream or illusion seen above the heavens. The brewery uses roughly 80% Miyagi-grown rice and spring water from the Ou mountain range, producing all its sake by hand in small batches, applying the same careful methods to its standard lines as to its top-tier brews. Tenjomugen has earned gold medals at the SAKE COMPETITION in the junmai category multiple years running.
