Fukuju is the flagship brand of Kobe Shushinkan, a brewery founded in 1751 in Nada, Kobe, that has remained in family hands for 13 generations. Located where the famous Miyamizu water from the Rokko Mountains and premium Yamada Nishiki rice grown at the mountain's base converge, Fukuju takes a notably different approach to Nada's traditionally robust style, pursuing clean, elegant, and fruity sake through the kouontouka-shubo fermentation method. The junmai ginjo Fukuju won the highest Gold Prize at the International SAKE Challenge 2017 and was served at the Nobel Prize banquet that year.
