Chida Shuzo, the producer of Kurikomayama, was founded in 1920 in Miyagi Prefecture when Yujiro Chida took over a brewery, and in 1937 the operation was relocated to Kurikoma Nakano to access a superior water source. The brand name Kurikomayama debuted in 1975, named to honor the mountain whose underground water the brewery relies upon. Fourth-generation president Yoshihiko Chida has built the brand's reputation on meticulous data-driven quality control, and the brewery was the first in Miyagi to introduce equipment capable of managing fermentation mash temperature to within 0.1 degrees Celsius.
