Tanaka Shuzoten was founded in 1789 in the Nakashinden area of Kami District, Miyagi Prefecture, a historically noted sake-brewing district in the Tohoku rice belt. The brewery is the only one in Miyagi to continue making kimoto-style sake since the revival of that traditional method, and the Daiginjo Kinmon Manatsuru earned Gold Awards from the National New Sake Appraisers Association in 2009, 2010, and 2013. Over more than 230 years, the brewery has maintained handmade koji production using the tray method and ferments in traditional wooden tubs, holding strict adherence to craft above volume.
