Abukuma

Genba Honten was founded in 1823 in Tamura, Fukushima, and remains a small-scale producer crafting roughly 200 to 300 koku annually under the close supervision of an owner-brewer who serves simultaneously as head brewer. The Abukuma brand, named after the Abukuma River that defines the region, prioritizes the role of food-pairing sake, with aromas kept deliberately restrained so as not to compete with the dish on the table. The brewery has earned Gold Prize recognition at the National Seishu Kanpyokai, a notable achievement for a house of this scale.
