Founding ancestor Jiemon Okura opened a sake shop in front of Fushimi Bashamae, naming the shop 'Kasagiya' and the sake brand 'Tamanoizumi'.
1718
Account ledgers from this year record entries for 'new sake,' 'aged sake,' and 'nanban-shu' (Southern barbarian style sake).
1886
Tsunekichi Okura inherited the family headship at age 13, becoming the 11th head of the family.
1905
Registered the trademark 'Gekkeikan' (laurel wreath), a symbol of victory and glory, as the sake brand name.
1909
Established the Okura Sake Brewing Research Institute (now the Gekkeikan Research Institute).
1927
Reorganized the sole proprietorship into 'Okura Tsunekichi Shoten Co., Ltd.'
1961
Built the 'Otegura' brewery, Japan's first equipped with a four-season brewing system.
1987
On the occasion of the company's 350th founding anniversary and 60th year since incorporation, changed the company name to 'Gekkeikan Co., Ltd.'
