Kankiku Meijo sits at the edge of Kujukurihama, Japan's longest stretch of sandy coastline in Chiba Prefecture, a landscape of open sky, rolling surf, and Narita Airport flight paths overhead. The Ocean 99 series translates that geography into sake, with each seasonal expression capturing a different atmospheric moment. Kuukai, meaning sky-sea, is the early-summer installment in the Flight trilogy: rice polished to 55% and bottled muroka genshu, undiluted and unfiltered, with an SMV of negative five that gives just enough sweetness to balance vivid, juicy ginjo fruit. Serve well-chilled in a wide-bowl glass and let the aroma rise as freely as an aircraft lifting clear of the coast.
