Sekaiitto was founded in 1884 in Wakayama City when the first-generation brewer Minakata Yaemon acquired a rice storehouse from the Kishu domain and began brewing sake. The brand name, meaning first in the world or unifier of the sake world, was bestowed by Marquis Okuma Shigenobu, one of the leading statesmen of the Meiji era. Using the clear spring water of the Kinokawa River basin, the brewery produces a clean, dry sake that has been a staple of Wakayama's table for nearly 140 years, anchored today by the flagship Minakata line.
