Sakuragao Shuzo was formed in 1973 through the merger of several sake breweries along the northern Iwate coastline, unifying them under a single brand named for the faint cherry-blossom flush that colors a drinker's face. Located east of Morioka City at the foot of Mount Tatara, the brewery is committed to the techniques of the Nanbu Toji guild and uses locally grown Iwate Prefecture rice varieties. In recent years, Sakuragao has expanded into East and Southeast Asian markets, with export volumes steadily increasing.
