  1. 1625The Yamamura family, farmers in Aramaki village, Itami, began brewing sake under the trade name "Aramakiya".
  2. 1717The family took the name Taizaemon Yamamura I and formally founded the brewery; the sake was then called "Shinsui".
  3. 1884After the trademark "Masamune" was denied as too generic, the brewery adopted "Sakuramasamune", adding a red cherry blossom emblem, becoming the origin of its current name.
  4. 1904A yeast strain collected from Sakuramasamune was judged the best among samples gathered nationwide by the government brewing institute and distributed nationally as "Association No. 1 Yeast".
  5. 1983Dr. Kimio Kageyama of the Yamamura Brewing Research Institute developed "Hanashizuku Aka", a patented sake brewed with red rice.
  6. 1992As part of a corporate identity overhaul, the company changed its name from Yamamura Shuzo Co., Ltd. to Sakuramasamune Co., Ltd.
  7. 1994The "Sakuki-gura" brewing facility was completed to produce the brewery's regular-grade honjozo sake.
  8. 2001"Association No. 1 Yeast", long believed destroyed in wartime bombing, was rediscovered at the Brewing Society of Japan after 60 years, and the brewery successfully commercialized sake brewed with it.
