- 1921Founded in Hagi, Yamaguchi Prefecture; the Sumikawa family, formerly rice wholesalers, took over a relative's sake brewery.
- 2004Yoshifumi Sumikawa became the 4th-generation owner-brewer, chartering overnight buses to expand sales channels in Tokyo.
- 2010Sold in Sao Paulo as an FIFA-endorsed official sake for the South Africa World Cup.
- 2013A major flood swept away the ground floor of the brewery, but more than 1,500 supporters helped rebuild it.
- 2014Built a new brewery building; won the Grand Prix in the 'Free Style under 5000' category of the SAKE COMPETITION the same year.
- 2016'Toyobijin Junmai Daiginjo Ichibanmatoi' was selected as the dinner sake for the Japan-Russia summit.
- 2019'Toyobijin Junmai Daiginjo Itten' was added to the JAL first-class in-flight sake lineup.
- 2021Celebrated its 100th anniversary, continuing to grow and evolve.
