Founded in 1818 in what is now Kurume City, Fukuoka Prefecture, Yamanokotobuki Shuzo has rebuilt its identity since the current generation took over in 2017, replacing the traditional toji master brewer system with a lean team of young brewers working collaboratively. The brewery follows Sen no Rikyu's Shin-Gyo-So philosophy, mastering fundamentals before pursuing creative expression unique to the brand. Its Junmai Daiginjo Yamada Nishiki 38 won a gold award at the 2020 National New Sake Competition.
