Yahatagawa Shuzo traces its origins to the Bunsei era of the early 19th century in Hiroshima's Saeki Ward, where it was established through collective investment by local community members committed to supporting regional sake culture. The brewery draws its water from the subterranean flows of Mount Gokuraku, renowned for their exceptional softness, which Hiroshima has leveraged for sake production since the Meiji era. Flagship daiginjo Tenko earned three consecutive gold prizes at the National New Sake Competitive Exhibition, brewed from 100% Hiroshima-grown Yamada Nishiki rice polished to 35%.
