Tenryohomare Shuzo was established in 1880 in Nakano City, Nagano, an area that served as an Edo-period government territory (tenryo) with a regional magistrate's office, which inspired the brand name meaning pride of the tenryo domain. The brewery brews with Miyamanishiki rice grown in Nagano and soft water filtered through a reverse-osmosis system from the Shiga Kogen mountain aquifer, and has earned four consecutive excellence awards at the Kanto-Shinetsu Regional Sake Appraisal as well as gold at the National New Sake Appraisal. Classical music plays in the brewery during fermentation, a practice the brewery believes contributes to a rounder sake character.
