Rumikonosake began when Rumiko Moriki of the family-run Moriki Shuzojo in Iga, Mie Prefecture, deeply moved by the manga Natsuko no Sake, approached its author Akira Oze, who responded by naming and designing the label himself. The brewery, founded in 1897 and producing only around 300 koku annually, makes all sake in small batches entirely from pure rice using lid-koji and traditional hand methods, aiming for restrained aromatic profiles that complement food.
