Mutsu Hassen is a brand launched in 1998 by Hachinohe Shuzo, a brewery with approximately 250 years of history in Hachinohe City, Aomori Prefecture, whose Meiji-era buildings are designated as a registered tangible cultural property. The brand name draws from the Eight Immortals of Chinese legend, expressing the wish for drinkers to find a transcendent pleasure in the cup, and uses only Aomori Prefecture-grown rice varieties such as Hanahope and Hanafubuki alongside local water from the Kaninosawa district. Hachinohe Shuzo ranked first in the World Sake Brewery Rankings in 2021, and Mutsu Hassen won Best Sake at the Catador competition in Chile in both 2022 and 2024.
