Hakuro Shuzo was founded in 1751 in Nagaoka, Niigata Prefecture, and in 1882 inherited the Makino family crest, Mitsu-Kashiwa, from the former lord of the Nagaoka domain, adopting the Hakuro brand name along with it. The brewery has carried that legacy forward for nearly three centuries with a stated commitment to produce delicious sake to please many people while continuously researching new techniques alongside traditional methods. Its flagship Kashiro Hakuro reflects both the samurai heritage of the Makino clan and Niigata's reputation for clean, refined sake.
