Eikun is the flagship brand of Saito Shuzo, a brewery founded in 1895 in the Fushimi district of Kyoto, one of Japan's most revered sake-producing regions thanks to the naturally soft underground water known as Fusui, rated among Japan's top 100 water sources. The brewery adopted the Eikun brand name in 1905 and is the largest purchaser of Iwai rice, a variety grown exclusively in Kyoto and used by Kyoto sake producers, buying 40% of all Iwai rice produced. Eikun received the National New Sake Tasting gold medal for 14 consecutive years, a record unmatched by any other brewery.
