In 1790, founder Yaemon Sato received a sake brewing license under the Aizu domain's industrial promotion policy and began sake production and sales.

In 1799, the two-story earthen-walled brewing storehouse known as Edo-gura was built.

In 1911, the two-story earthen-walled Taisho-gura storehouse was built for full-scale brewing.

In 1927, the Showa-gura brewing storehouse was newly built with an added double furnace.

In 1944, under wartime industry consolidation, the brewery became the Yamatogawa plant of Yama Shuzo Co., Ltd., with the 7th-generation Yaemon as representative director.

In 1955, after passing through the Yama Sake Brewers' Cooperative, Yamatogawa Shuzoten (limited partnership) was established.

In 1990, the state-of-the-art steel-framed Iide-gura brewery, with about 1,490 square meters of floor space, was completed.

In 2018, the brewery won the gold award at the National New Sake Awards for the 8th consecutive year.
