Azumanada Jozo was established in 1867 in Katsuura, Chiba, a port city on the Pacific coast, and the Naruka brand launched in 2006 takes its name from the local name for Katsuura Bay, where the Naruka Shrine watches over the cape. Located just 200 meters from the sea, the brewery brews with mountain-fed underground water and centers its Naruka line on directly bottled raw sake, delivering a lightly sparkling freshness derived from natural fermentation. The brewery is small, producing around 200 koku, and is now led by a brewer who previously shaped the acclaimed Zassoh Horai brand.
