Hirairokuemon is named after one of the founding figures of Kikunotsukasa Sake Brewery, established in 1772 in Iwate Prefecture, Japan's northernmost major island prefecture and one of the coldest brewing environments on Honshu. The brewery uses water drawn from a well fed by the Nakatsu River subsoil and sources more than 90% of its rice from local Iwate varieties, with the Hirairokuemon Shinboshi expression earning GOLD at both the IWC and a major Spanish wine competition.
