Kinemon Yamamoto compró una destilería llamada 'Sugaiya' en Meiji 2 y fundó la industria del sake. El actual presidente es la sexta generación. En el momento de la fundación, la inscripción del sake era 'ciervo blanco', luego 'Midoriyama', antes de que la segunda generación Yoshiro Yamamoto registrara la marca 'Kinho'. El nombre del sake 'Kinho' proviene del ave 'fénix' que, según una leyenda de la antigua China, aparece en el mundo acompañado de santos. El fénix, que vive en un árbol junto a la fuente, se llama 'ho' en masculino y 'ou' en femenino. 'Kim' fue elegido del carácter 'Otori' del fénix.

  1. 1869Founded when first-generation Kizaemon Yamamoto purchased a sake brewing house called Sugaiya; the third generation, Kashiro Yamamoto, later named the brand Kinpo, inspired by the Byodo-in Temple in Uji.
  2. 1937Won first place nationwide at the National Sake Appraisal Fair.
  3. 1951Fifth-generation Shiro Yamamoto reorganized the brewery into a corporation.
  4. 1965Adopted the slogan and jingle 'The mountain is Mt. Daisen, the sake is Kinpo' and began television commercials (circa 1965).
  5. 1990Launched the 'Herun' brand to commemorate the 100th anniversary of Lafcadio Hearn's arrival in Japan.
  6. 1999Named its shochu brand 'Tatara' and launched barley and sweet-potato shochu.
  7. 2007Launched the junmai ginjo 'Matsue-jo' to commemorate the 400th anniversary of the founding of Matsue Castle town.
  8. 2021Won the top gold award in the Junmai category of the 'Wine Glass Award for Sake' competition.
