History
1755
Founded in 1755 (Horeki 5); the original brewery building (Ue-no-kura) built at that time is still used for sake production today.
1842-1848
Around 1842-1848, the 12th-generation head invited the ukiyo-e artist Katsushika Hokusai and supported his life and creative work as a patron.
1923
In 1923 (Taisho 12), founded Obuse Fruit Processing Co. (predecessor of Obusedo).
1959
During the Showa era, developed the brand 'Unzan' under a joint bottling arrangement.
1997
In the Heisei era, shifted toward developing proprietary brands and carried out major reforms.
2000
Achieved what is said to be Japan's first revival of wooden-vat (kioke) sake brewing.
2019
Since the Reiwa era began in 2019, the brewery has continued to preserve traditional methods while challenging itself with new sake-making approaches.
