Tsukinokatsura is brewed by Masuda Tokubee Shoten, established in 1675 in Fushimi, Kyoto, making it one of the oldest breweries in Japan's most storied sake-producing district. The brand name was inspired by a poem composed by the court noble Anekkoji Arinaga, and the brewery is credited with pioneering commercial production of nigori sake in 1966, when the thirteenth-generation Tokubee developed the style and launched a dedicated appreciation club for it.
