Kankiku Meijo was founded in 1883 by Gensaku Sase in Kujukuri, Chiba Prefecture, harnessing local spring water and traditional fermentation expertise that the brewery later extended to craft beer and shochu. The Ocean 99 series, named for the 99-ri stretch of Kujukurihama beach that defines the coastline near the brewery, captures the mood of that shore across four seasonal releases, each expressing what the brewery describes as the changing character of the local climate and sense of the seasons.
