The only sake brewery in Fukushima City, Kinsuisho Shuzoten takes its name from the gold mines and crystal-clear streams that once defined its original neighborhood. The fourth-generation president Miyuki Saito holds that you can't make delicious sake without good rice, a philosophy that has earned the brewery fifteen Gold Prizes at the Annual Japan Sake Awards, including eight consecutive golds at the National New Sake Competition starting in 2008. In January 2024 the brewery reopened in a new location in Arai, where it draws on subsoil water from the Arakawa River, recognized for thirteen consecutive years as having Japan's best water quality.
