Ishikura Shuzo, known as Hakata Hyakunengura, is the last remaining sake brewery in the Hakata district of Fukuoka, operating from historic white-walled earthen warehouses and brick chimneys that are registered as tangible cultural properties of Japan. Founded in the Meiji era, the brewery has preserved traditional brewing techniques for over 150 years at a site that has become part of the fabric of Hakata's cityscape. Hyakunengura has earned recognition at the International Wine Challenge, the Kura Master competition in France, and the Fukuoka Prefecture Governor's Prize, underscoring its place as a guardian of Hakata's sake heritage.
