Takizawa Honten was founded in 1872 along the approach road to Narita-san Shinsho-ji Temple in Chiba Prefecture, after the brewery's first head, Eizo Takizawa, reportedly received a message in a dream from Fudo Myo-o during a pilgrimage to the temple. The brewery draws on well water from the subsoil beneath Shinsho-ji, slightly alkaline and locally renowned for longevity, which lends the sake its soft character. Gokitoginjo, the prayer ginjo, is brewed several times a year using this sacred-source water, tying each batch directly to the temple's spiritual heritage.
