Fukui Shuzojo was founded in 1900 in Iga City, Mie Prefecture, a region known historically as the land of the ninja, and the brewery's principal brand Fukunokoe -- voice of good fortune -- was named to wish prosperity upon all who drink it. Spring water from the Nunobiki mountain range and Mie Prefecture sake rice are used throughout the lineup. In 2022 the sake-making license and tradition were continued under new stewardship at a purpose-built facility within the VISON complex in Taki, keeping the brand's teroir-focused approach alive under the name Fukuwagura.
