Niizawa Sake Brewery, established in 1873 in Miyagi and rebuilt the same year the 2011 Great East Japan Earthquake destroyed its original facilities, has since become the highest-ranked sake brewery at the IWC for four consecutive years from 2022 through 2025. The Atagonomatsu brand, named for the pine trees of Mt. Atago, predates the brewery and carries deep local attachment. Elegant green Muscat and Asian pear on the nose; a balanced, inviting palate described as more openly flavourful than the brewery's food-focused Hakurakusei sibling. First place at Japan's largest tasting competition, SAKE COMPETITION, in 2016.
