Established in 1865 at the foot of the Northern Alps in Omachi, Nagano, Ichinoya (chinoya Co., Ltd.) renamed its flagship sake Kinran Kurobe to commemorate the construction of the Kurobe Dam in 1969, replacing the earlier brand name Fukuran. Every stage of production is carried out by hand using spring water drawn from the 900-meter-elevation village of Iyani-sato, and master brewers have continued to craft this sake with what the brewery describes as the blessings of the Northern Alps water source and fertile land.
