Kumano Brewing Co. was founded through the merger of several sake breweries whose individual histories dated back to the Edo period.

The brewery's Junmai Daiginjo received an award at the National New Sake Appraisal (Zenkoku Shinshu Kanpyokai) for the 2012 fiscal year.

The Junmai Daiginjo won a Bronze Award at the International Wine Challenge 2012.

The brewery launched a new product, Junmai Daiginjo Genshu Ginkaku, on June 9.

The brewery launched Kuminoura Tokubetsu Junmai KENRO on July 1, featuring a label designed by contemporary calligraphy artist Ken-ro.

The brewery began selling Genshu Natsu no Hiya, a rich sake intended to be enjoyed on the rocks, on May 1.
