Founded in Kunisaki, Oita Prefecture (Meiji 16 / 1883). The shop name 'Matsushimaya' and the sake brand 'Matsunotsuyu' were named by founder Katsujiro after his admiration for the scenic beauty of Matsushima in Tohoku.
