History

1725
Founded (Kyoho 10). Brewed sake by lending and borrowing brewing licenses (kabu).
1847
Wajiki town had two brewers, east (Matsuura family, "Higashiyamaya") and west (Matsuda family, "Nishiyamaya"); the brewer Matsuura Sanuemon held a 70-koku brewing license.
1870
Matsuura Sanuemon changed his name to Matsuura Sakiji.
1883
Sakiji's son Yoshitaro took over and brewed under the brand names "Shorei" and "Wakamatsu."
1948
Naka Shuzo Co., Ltd. (Yugen Kaisha) was established on March 16.
1968
Production reached about 1,000 koku, with bulk (oke-uri) sake sold to brewers in the Nada region.
1980
Stopped bulk sales to Nada; production scaled down to about 100 koku.
1988
Switched to all-junmai production at about 40 koku, a scale that continues today.
