Iwanoishuzo Co.,Ltd

Founded on October 13, 1917 (Taisho 6) as a joint-stock company backed by 175 shareholders across seven villages in the Hanaizumi area of Iwate, at a time when the region had no licensed sake brewer and moonshining was widespread.

Amid wartime industry consolidation, all sake brewers in Higashi-Iwai and Nishi-Iwai counties merged into a new company, Ryoban Shuzo Co.; Iwanoi became a shareholder, suspending its own brewing and continuing only as a sake retailer.

On December 10, 1952, the company was the first in Iwate Prefecture to regain an independent brewing license from the Ministry of Finance after the wartime merger, resuming brewing on its own.

In 1994, the brewery won the Gold Award at the National New Sake Appraisal, a recognition regarded as a high honor among Japanese sake makers.

In May 2023, the brewery won Gold at the National New Sake Appraisal and a Silver medal in the Junmai Daiginjo category of the IWC 2023 Sake competition.

In June 2023, the brewery won Gold in the Junmai Daiginjo category and Silver in the Junmai category at SAKE COMPETITION 2023.
